Why most patches stay visible
Two reasons, and neither is the filling. The first is cutting back: a patch fixed to soft or water-damaged board moves with it, and the joint opens again within a season. The second is texture — the wall was sprayed by someone else with their own mud consistency, tip size and pressure, and guessing at those is how a patch ends up a slightly different pattern to everything around it.
So we cut back to solid board on solid framing, add backing where there is none to screw to, and sample the texture on scrap before anything is sprayed on the wall. The sample gets held against the wall under that room’s own light, adjusted, and only then applied.

How a repair goes in

Drywall repairs
Find the cause first. A stain gets a moisture reading and a look at what is above it, because closing up over an unresolved leak just buys a second repair.
Patching
Cut back to square edges on solid framing, add backing where there is nothing to screw to, then new board fixed flush rather than proud.
Hairline crack repairs
A hairline crack that keeps coming back is movement, not filler failure. Those get the joint reinforced rather than just refilled, so the crack does not track straight back through.
Texture matched
Sampled on scrap, checked against the wall under the room’s own light, adjusted, then applied and feathered well past the repair.
